Announcing the New Executive Director in the Asian Animal Health Association
The Asian Animal Health Association (AAHA) is pleased to announce the selection of Pushpanathan Sundram (Nathan) as its new Executive Director effective Nov. 1, 2020. He takes over from Yoshihiro (Yoshi) Shimizu, who held the post for the last 6.5 years.
Nathan brings 30 years of executive leadership and experience working in government, international organizations, and the private sector in the Asia Pacific region. He was the first professionally recruited Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Economic Community (2009-2011) and held various other senior positions in the ASEAN Secretariat for 12 years. Nathan joined the private sector in 2012 as the Managing Director for Asia Pacific of the European Advisory Services, a public affairs firm headquartered in Brussels. He later worked as the Senior Director for Public Policy and Government Affairs with Elanco Animal Health until 2019. Since Jan. 2020, he is the CEO of PublicPolicyAsia Advisors, a Singapore business advisory firm. Nathan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, NUS.
Following his onboarding, we expect Nathan to take the key roles of further enhancing AAHA activities in ASEAN and Asia, including the effective outreach of the recently completed ASEAN regulatory benchmark survey results.
During the last 6.5 years, AAHA has established working teams in key Asian countries to focus on priority areas, conducted an antimicrobial use policy seminar with 5 ASEAN countries’ regulatory authorities and key opinion leaders, and recently completed a 2 years large scale ASEAN regulatory benchmarking survey. We appreciate all the excellent work to support the AAHA activities done by Yoshi with the members during his tenure and wish him a happy retirement.
Once again, I am happy to welcome Nathan as the new Executive Director in AAHA.
Sincerely,
Robert (Rob) Barclay
President of AAHA
